Are you writing a quiz, or involved in its creation and wants to improve your quiz writing skills? We got you covered. In this article, we will provide you with a few important tips on creating great quizzes. Regardless of whether you are writing a quiz for kids, teens, or adults, you will find some of the tips mentioned here useful. Without further ado, let’s start:

  1. Find the appropriate amount of questions

There are no magic number to the number of questions to include in a quiz. Generally, the number of questions on a quiz intended for a younger audience is limited so that you can keep their attention and for your quiz to be engaging. Quizzes for older people or more dedicated bases can get away with more lengthy quizzes, as complexity is not much of a problem here. In the next point, we will talk more about the complexity of the questions.

  1. Make sure the complexity of your sentences matches the preferences of your audience

Similar to the first point mentioned above, the complexity should also be adapted to the target audience that the quiz is intended for. If you are creating or writing a quiz for kids, make sure to keep the sentences simple, short, and easy to understand.

  1. Keep the answers short

Preferably, the answers should be kept as short as possible. One word answers are the best, however short phrases can work too. Full names are also okay to use. What you should try to avoid are answers that take a lot of words or even a few sentences. Remember that you are doing a quiz, not an essay writing competition. Keep the answers as short as possible.

  1. Avoid questions are too common, obvious, or predictable

A quiz must not be too hard, but it must not be too easy either. For this reason, try to avoid questions that are commonly used in quizzes. Common questions like age and gender are okay but don’t go beyond that. You should also avoid predictable questions. As an example, if your quiz is about vehicles, do not directly ask about their preferred vehicle to drive.

Additionally, do not limit your questions to just the topic of your quiz or you’ll risk being too predictable with your questions. Your questions can be anything, as long as it is used to draw out an answer and lead to a final conclusion. A question that is seemingly unrelated to the subject can actually be helpful – if it can draw out a meaningful conclusion, it is good to include in your quiz for more variety and to keep your audience engaged.

  1. Proper ordering of your questions is key to an engaging quiz

Make sure that your quiz is not too boring or too overwhelming by mixing your hard questions with the easier ones. If your audience comes across easy questions too many times in a row, they might think your quiz is made for kids, and vice versa.
